Green Initiatives

This page presents the many ways that WES works hard to protect our environment.

The Green Corner

Each issue of the WES NeWES includes information and "green" tips you can put into practice.

Recycling

Here are the ways that we all recycle during the school day and at school events:

All classrooms and offices have blue recycling bins for white paper.

Large blue recycling bins are placed throughout the school for mixed paper, for aluminum cans, and for mixed recyclables

Toner and ink jet cartridges are recycled

Used uniforms are donated and resold

Facilities

See how our facility conforms to "green standards" and how we are working to improve our buildings and grounds.

WES uses motion sensors on bathroom lights

Old windows have been replaced with energy efficient windows

Film has been applied to south-facing windows to decrease room heat in summer

All the recessed lights in the elevator hallway as well as bathroom lights have been replaced with compact fluorescent bulbs, reducing electricity demand in those areas by 70%

Computers, printers, photocopiers, projectors, and other electrical devices are turned off after hours

WES cleaning services use biodegradable and environmentally friendly cleaners

Special motion and heat sensors for overhead lights are being installed in classrooms to use our electricity most efficiently.

Other Initiatives

The administrative staff contracts with printing companies that are FSC certified.  This means that the Forest Stewardship Council independently certifies that the paper the printer uses comes from forests that are managed to meet the social, economic, and ecological needs of present and future generations.
