Welcome from the Head of School
Dear Families,
As the head of Washington Episcopal School for over a decade, I take tremendous pride in the learning experience we craft for our WES Dragons. I’ve watched as my own three children flourished at WES, alongside hundreds of others. I’ve seen firsthand how this community helps children become their best selves: not just bright students, but kind, confident, and prepared individuals who are ready to meaningfully engage with the world outside our doors.
Every family arrives at WES with their own hopes and dreams, but what amazes me is how quickly those new faces become part of the fabric of our community. There’s a warmth here, a sense of belonging that you feel almost immediately. We are a school built on relationships: between students and teachers, families and educators, and among the children themselves. We rely on each other for guidance and companionship, and proactively seek out ways to uplift and support one another. This is how we live out our core value of kindness: by putting it into action, every single day.
Our approach to learning is joyful, challenging, and deeply rooted in curiosity. We offer an academically rigorous program, but we’re just as intentional about teaching values like empathy, courage, and integrity.
As our students learn and grow, they take part in traditions that define who we are: Chapel Talks, buddy partnerships, community service days, and study trips that become the stuff of legends in the lives of our students. At WES, our traditions are dynamic, engaging experiences that shape and are shaped by the community of students, family members, and educators who partake in them. They are opportunities to create memories, build confidence, and connect our students to something larger than themselves.
While we cherish our past, we also never stop evolving. Whether it’s a new program, a reimagined space, or an innovative way to teach and learn, we are always asking ourselves how we can best prepare our students for what lies ahead. Through a balanced approach which is both challenging and nurturing, students are empowered to imagine their own bright futures and are equipped to tackle life’s challenges with resilience and grace.
We have come a long way since our founding, but what has never changed over the years is how it feels to be part of WES. WES is where children are known and celebrated, teachers are deeply committed, and families are true partners in the educational journey. It’s where each day is filled with joy, purpose, and possibilities. WES is where we call home, and I invite you to come visit and experience it for yourself. We can’t wait to welcome you!
