Experiential Learning

Learning By Doing

At WES, we believe that experiential learning—rooted in real-world exploration and hands-on discovery—deepens understanding and builds lasting connections. From unique experiences in the classroom to neighborhood ponds and parks to renowned D.C.-area institutions and international destinations, our students embark on purposeful study trips that grow with them. These experiences bring classroom lessons to life and inspire curiosity, confidence, and a global perspective.

WES students connect classroom learning to the real world through hands-on experiences both on campus and beyond.

In Middle School, students expand their horizons with unforgettable journeys—starting in Utah and culminating in international study trips to Italy, then France or Spain in Grade 8.

Learning Comes to Life

At Washington Episcopal School, experiential learning is woven into every aspect of the student journey—both inside and outside the classroom. Whether designing projects in the Dragon Innovation Lab, collaborating in hands-on science lessons, or exploring historic landmarks and global destinations, students engage in learning that is active, meaningful, and lasting. These experiences spark curiosity, build confidence, and help students make powerful connections between what they learn and the world around them.
