WES Grandparents

We Love Our Grandparents!

At Washington Episcopal School, we know how important grandparents are to the life of a child—and to the life of our community. Whether you live nearby or across the country, your involvement brings joy, wisdom, and a special kind of magic to our students' school experience.

We love when grandparents visit campus—reading stories to students, sharing family traditions or cultural holidays, chaperoning a field trip, or even speaking in chapel. There are so many ways to get involved, and we invite you to share your time, your talents, and your stories with us.

Take a look around to discover opportunities to connect—we can’t wait to welcome you!

Grandparents & Special Friends Day
Tuesday, November 25, 2025 | 8:30–11:30 a.m.

Each fall, we open our doors and our hearts to the cherished grandparents and special friends in our students’ lives. This beloved WES tradition is a morning filled with joy, connection, and gratitude.

Guests will enjoy a student performance, followed by classroom visits where you can see firsthand the vibrant learning and joyful spirit that define WES. The morning concludes with our Thanksgiving Chapel—an opportunity to reflect together as a community.

Whether you're reading stories in Pre-K, admiring student art, or watching your grandchild lead a prayer, your presence makes a lasting impact. We hope you'll join us for this special day!

RSVP by November 18.

Why Grandparents Give

At WES, we know how important grandparents are in a child’s life—and in our community. Giving to the Annual Fund is a meaningful way to celebrate your grandchild’s experience, support the teachers and programs they love, and help ensure WES remains a place where every child can thrive. Your generosity makes a lasting difference, today and for generations to come.

Get Involved at WES

Volunteering is at the heart of what makes WES such a special place. When grandparents give their time and talents, it not only strengthens our community—it also deeply enriches the experience for our students and families.

There are many ways to get involved, including:

  • Chaperoning a field trip

  • Serving Hot Lunch

  • Helping with Chapel

  • Speaking to a class about a cultural, religious, or family tradition

  • Reading aloud to students in the classroom

Volunteering at WES is truly voluntary—we offer a wide range of opportunities to fit your time, interests, and schedule.

Ways to Help

Our community is always excited to welcome grandparent volunteers. Many grandparents say that volunteering has given them a closer connection to their grandchild’s school life, a deeper understanding of WES, and a firsthand look at how our mission comes to life each day.
