Learning Specialist (Early Childhood and Elementary School)

Washington Episcopal School in Bethesda, Maryland, is seeking a part time early childhood learning specialist. The Early Childhood and Elementary Learning Specialist will work with students in Nursery – Grade 3. The specialist will:
• Provide direct student support through small group and one-on-one instruction through both push-in and pull-out models. Reteach, reinforce, consolidate, and extend specific learning skills.
• Provide ongoing professional development and instructional support for teachers as well as parent education.
• Collaborate with teams of teachers and administrators to support student development.
• Assist teachers with tracking data to determine the effectiveness of instruction.
• Assess students in order to establish goals and objectives for students, and regularly review these with teachers, administrators, and parents.
• Coordinate the organization of speech language and occupational therapy screenings as well as the schedules for tutors and outside service providers.
• Effectively use extensive knowledge of recent research and development in educating students with learning differences.

• Practicum level training in a IMSLEC Structured Multisensory Language Program or training and experience in Orton-Gillingham, Lindamood Bell, Phonographix, or similar multisensory based programs

Middle School Science and Math Teacher

Washington Episcopal School is an independent school serving nursery through eighth grade, located in Bethesda, Maryland. WES is looking for a dynamic teacher of middle school level math and science (Math 6, Pre-Algebra, Earth Science, Life Science) to join our faculty. The ideal candidate is an experienced classroom teacher at the middle school level who is excited to provide engaging, hands-on learning experiences in both subject areas. In Science, lab work and field study are integral elements of daily teaching and learning. In Math, a passion for numbers and solid pedagogical practice drives a joyful and active learning experience. As a member of a dedicated Middle School team, this full-time position includes Homeroom and/or Advisory responsibilities.

Successful candidates will possess the following:
• BA/BS degree in education or math areas
• Teaching credential and/or Master’s degree preferred
• Teaching experience of 3-5 years in independent schools preferred
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Director of Development

Washington Episcopal School is an independent school serving nursery through eighth grade, located in Bethesda, Maryland. The school seeks a creative, energetic, organized fundraiser with excellent communication and technology skills to be responsible for and manage all aspects of WES fundraising activities and programs as well as community- building events. The director of development works collaboratively with the development staff, head of school, parent volunteers, and trustees.
Responsibilities:
• Establish and execute forward-thinking, goal-driven development plans and programs that optimally grow the annual fund, major gifts, and capital campaigns.
• Work with the Head of School and the Development Committee to evaluate each year’s giving programs and develop goals and objectives for the following year.
• Oversee all aspects of the development program, including capital campaign, annual giving, grants, alumni, special events, and database management.
• Maintain and build relationships with all constituencies (parents, students, alumni, trustees, parents of alumni, faculty, donors and friends of the school).
• Organize, oversee, attend, and in all ways champion and support community-building events which currently include the annual fall back-to-school party, grandparents and special friends day, the annual auction, a variety of parent association activities, and alumni and past parent events.
• Work closely with the parents association on all their community-building and fundraising activities.
• Provide leadership to the development staff and volunteers to carry out the activities of the development office. Manage the development staff.
• Create a strong sense of community through volunteer recruitment and management for development efforts.
• Oversee the processing of all gift income, in conjunction with the business office, for the purpose of providing receipts and thank you letters, as well as the maintaining of giving records of donors to the school.
• Manage all grant-writing efforts.
• Work with the development staff to create and distribute the annual report and the bi-annual WES magazine.
• Educate potential donors on planned giving including, but not limited to, estate planning, gifts of securities, and corporate matches.
• Maintain the content of development department pages of the WES website.
• Lead and execute capital campaigns.
• Serve as a member of the school’s administrative team, the parents association executive committee, the Board’s development, trustees, and campus and facilities committees. Act as a liaison with the Board Development Committee.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the head of school; assist with school projects as needed.

Qualifications:
• Prior successful fundraising/development experience.
• A bachelor’s degree is required, master’s degree preferred.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively with families, colleagues, and all external constituent groups.
• Outstanding creativity and flexibility skills.
• Attention to accuracy, confidentiality, details, and deadlines.
• Ability to work collaboratively with individuals and groups.
• Experience with development and auction software and databases.
• Ability to attend events on the weekend and evenings as needed.
• Able to help physically setting up and breaking down events.

Classroom Proctors

Washington Episcopal School, founded in 1986, WES, is an independent, co-educational school for approximately 300 students, from Nursery through Grade 8, located in Bethesda, MD. The school’s mission is to inspire academic and personal excellence within a joyful learning environment to develop students who are kind, confident, and prepared.

WES is seeking part-time proctors for classes in numerous grades from kindergarten through eighth grade. Proctors will supervise students when a teacher is out of the class; responsibilities might include substituting when a teacher is absent, monitoring a class while a teacher instructs remotely, or supervising students during lunch and recess periods. Proctors will coordinate with teachers as needed to manage classes and materials.
