Elementary School Welcome

Meet Courtney Clark

Welcome to the joy-filled and nurturing Elementary division at WES! Building on the firm foundations of the Early Childhood years, we strive to meet every child where they are and inspire them to be thinkers, explorers, investigators, creators, and collaborators to develop the essential skills and knowledge for lifelong learning.

The Elementary grades are a time of amazing growth and development – both academically and socially. Students are challenged within a broad, rigorous curriculum as they develop the confidence to try new things and take risks. Over time, our students develop resilience, flexibility, and a growth mindset. They are encouraged to reflect on their learning, set goals for themselves, and strive to be the best they can be. At the heart of the Elementary division, teachers and students thrive in a culture of kindness, empathy, and respect, where diversity is celebrated and relationships are cherished. It is a wonderful place to grow and learn.

Courtney Clark
Interim Elementary Director

Courtney Clark is entering her twenty-first year in education and her fifth year at WES. Courtney most recently served as the elementary art teacher and the Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Courtney comes to WES after working in DC Public Schools for two years, then in two different DC Public Charter Schools over thirteen years. During her time in DC, in addition to teaching art to elementary and middle school students, Courtney served on the Instructional Leadership Team, in numerous leadership roles including the Specials Department Chair–working with her team to align classes, programs and curriculum across multiple schools. Courtney also spent many years as an Extended Day Program Coordinator, managing staff and developing after school programs for students. She earned her bachelor’s degree in art from Grinnell College in Iowa and her Master of Science Administration in nonprofit management from Trinity Washington University. Outside of school, Courtney enjoys all things art – including sewing and making her own garments. She lives in Maryland with her husband, and two children – also WES Dragons!
