If you are a “LEGO fanatic” this program is for you! Mrs. Elkassem will create a “LEGOLand” full of opportunities for students to explore and create with LEGOs. Every student will have a part in building a LEGO City. Our city will expand weekly as the students add more buildings, transportation, and people.

Students will be able to use the super-popular game Minecraft to plan and construct a fully interactive world together! Students will have opportunities, both by themselves and collaboratively, to plan out what they are going to build, and then make it come to life in the game! Students do not need to be familiar with Minecraft, but it seems like most of them are!

Students in this class will jump, hop, and climb as they learn fundamental gymnastics skills in an entertaining and fast-paced way. The class will open up with a fun warm-up and stretch. The students will learn basic floor gymnastics skills, including cartwheels, handstands, bridges, back walkers, and agility movements. The goal is for students to learn gymnastics skills in a fun and interactive way! Reminder: It is important for students to dress appropriately in athletic or gymnastics apparel.

Come get strong, stretched, grounded, and balanced! The ancient science of yoga and meditation can calm your child’s body and mind, teaching them lifelong tools they can take with them wherever they go.· Class will be designed with a progression of poses appropriate for children, interwoven with kid led-poses, yoga games, and stories. Mindful activities such as coloring or beading will also be an option for students. We will end class with savasana, breathwork, and meditation, which students will be encouraged to bring home to you. Mrs. Bridle is a certified yoga teacher (RYT 200) and a lifelong practitioner of yoga asana and meditation.

Study Hall is a structured, quiet time for students to work on homework after school. The sessions are supervised by members of the Extended Day team, and students should be able to work independently with minimum support. Due to the quiet nature of Study Hall, students are not able to work together on group projects during this time.

Kaleidoscope clubs at WES focus on topics of identity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging. Students will have the opportunity to explore these topics together, connect them to current events, and share their ideas with the wider WES community.

This year we are excited to offer a Math Olympiad club for students in Grades 4 & 5. Mathematical Olympiads for Elementary and Middle Schools (www.moems.org) is a national organization that provides opportunities for students to engage in creative problem-solving activities while developing reasoning, logic, productive discourse, and perseverance.
Working with math teacher Susie Loutoo, students will explore and practice problems in preparation for monthly Olympiad contests. Students may sign up for this club each trimester or participate throughout the year. While any child who has participated in Math Olympiad in the after-school program will be awarded a certificate at the end of the year, those who have completed all five monthly Olympiad contests may qualify for a small award. The first olympiad took place during our first after-school session. The dates for the remaining olympiads are listed below. Please sign up for either a Monday or a Friday session.

WES Running Club gets students in Grades 1-4 up and moving after school! In addition to building their running stamina and adding distance each practice, members will also learn and practice important life skills, like empathy, kindness, teamwork, and community. All our runners need are some sneakers, a water bottle, optional change of clothes, and a positive attitude!

Come join me on Tuesdays in a light and fun art class where you can create your own happy vivid colorful paintings. We will be using acrylic paints, experimenting and enjoying their versatility and learning how to blend colors. We will also be adding fabric and other mixed media to our canvases.
Every learner will walk away feeling proud of their canvases!
All supplies will be provided, but if possible please send in an old T-shirt to wear, I will save it for art class.

While learning the technique of cross stitching, students will be able to use their creativity, strengthen their fine motor skills, and develop skills in accuracy and precision. Cross stitching is especially good for students who enjoy working on a project from the beginning to the end. For students previously enrolled, they can continue projects they haven’t completed or begin a new challenge.

Step into the fast-paced world of the Elementary School Hot Wheels Club, where young speed enthusiasts ignite their passion for racing and engineering. Guided by dedicated teachers, these pint-sized speedsters engage in exhilarating competitions, building custom tracks and showcasing their meticulously modified Hot Wheels cars. With every loop, twist, and jump, the club fuels imagination, teamwork, and an unquenchable thirst for the thrill of the race.

As the foundation of all dance forms, ballet helps develop base dance techniques for any style. Ballet classes help students with posture, flexibility, fitness, balance, self-discipline, and self-confidence, and can potentially enhance their motor, listening, and social skills. Dancers will learn basic steps and terminology in ballet and will begin to explore their own expressive movement styles while honing in on important techniques.

Our Fun and Sticky Science Club where kids get dirty and tables get messy will give the students an opportunity to explore a variety of hands-on experiments. The students will make slime, lava lamps, Alka-Seltzer rockets, and experiment with different foaming, bubbling, and fizzing compounds while learning about physical and chemical change.

Great opportunity to learn from a former all-Japan karate (K-1 style) champion! Sensei Takemori is a native of Japan!
Sensei’s teaching system is not ordinary. He will demonstrate to students his passion for karate which comes from over 40 years of training and experience.

Ms. Keller will be leading a club dedicated to making bracelets, necklaces, rings, and earrings! Rainbow loom, lanyards, beads, and friendship bracelets are just a few of the options available to students. Students get to keep and take home anything they make during this club.

The Ping-Pong Club is a smashing group of WES students who train and compete in the stimulating sport of table tennis. Members will hone their skills and sharpen their games each meeting on Tuesdays. Led by Sr. Pizarro, the Ping-Pong Club is “serving” its way into the hearts of those WES students who love table tennis!

A creative writing club for elementary school students is a program designed to inspire and develop children’s writing skills through engaging activities and group workshops. Students will learn the fundamentals of storytelling, character development, and plot structure, while also exploring different genres such as fiction, poetry, and non-fiction. Through guided prompts and brainstorming sessions, children will have the opportunity to express their unique voices and ideas, and develop their creative thinking and communication skills. The club provides a safe and supportive environment for students to share their work and receive constructive feedback, fostering a sense of community and confidence in their abilities as writers.

Breakout EDU uses escape-room inspired educational games and puzzles to build critical thinking and collaboration skills. Students will put their teamwork and puzzle-solving skills to the test to “breakout” before the clock runs out.

Enter into the magical and exciting world of chess with Chess Wizards! You will participate in epic chess games, fun and interactive lessons, tournaments, team matches, trivia and more! Our specialized classes are a blast for everyone first through fifth. Whether you have been playing chess for your entire life and want to improve, are brand new to the game, or you just want to have a fun experience with your friends – Chess Wizards is the place for you!

Each week your child will be immersed in hands-on experiences that encourage the development of their fine motor, social and critical thinking skills. We will be making a variety of art projects, and use many different materials including yarn, paints, stone art, and so much more! Do you enjoy making miniatures? This class includes a wooden dollhouse or castle for you to transform! You will learn miniature basics while having fun creating your very own miniature world. You will determine what kind of world you are creating. A fairy house? A mini Minecraft-inspired fort? This weekend class is ideal for the artistic elementary school student who loves to experiment, maybe a future architect! All materials included.

Learning to Code is a critical skill for children to learn! Much like learning another language, it’s best to have kids learn about programming concepts early and often! In our Scratch Jr class, kids will learn coding concepts including computer automation and linear sequencing. They will make short stories, apply elements of animation, and create their own sprites and objects – all using technology and coding fundamentals!

Take a trip around the world in our World Cooking Club! We will learn about different cultures and then eat a dish from that region! Kids will learn how to use kitchen tools appropriately and safely, how to make dishes from around the world using simple ingredients that are easy to find at home, how to clean up after making big messes in the kitchen, and ideas about nutrition and feeding their bodies in a healthy manner. Students will keep track of the things they make on a weekly basis. At the end of the class, the students will have their very own cookbook!

Calling all pirates, musketeers, and Jedi – fencing is coming to you! Fencing is a martial art and an Olympic sport. Fencing is based on swordsmanship in which winning points are made through contact with an opponent. Children in the class will learn basic moves and participate in matches to develop their skills and explore this history-rich sport that combines athleticism and intellect. Like other martial arts, fencing is about personal accomplishment, creative problem-solving, and discipline. Fencers will apply their acquired skills and confidence to other sports, studies, and life. All equipment used in this class, including clothing, masks and sabres, will be provided by the instructor.

Well if you said yes to all of these, then I have the perfect club for your kid! Every week we will go on a new adventure, with some fun challenges along the way. Similar to the famous show “The Amazing Race”, students will compete in their very own giant scavenger hunt race around the school. They will follow clues around the building and participate in a variety of both physical and mental challenges, such as finding one single colored jelly bean in a container of other colors, putting together puzzles, or trying to get an object into a target. The students are encouraged to be adventurous and creative, while developing teamwork and problem-solving skills here. Our main focus though, is to explore new activities and have a blast doing so.

Discovering a new sport is a great way for children to develop new skills and techniques but also a perfect opportunity to build friendships and learn other qualities such as teamwork, resilience, and concentration. Whether your child has never picked up a racquet before or looking to take their game to the next stage, this club is for them! Students will start with learning the basics of tennis. How to serve, return and rally with opponents. There will be solo play, doubles, and tournament-style matches throughout the duration of the club. Each student will need to have their own tennis racket to join!

Enter the wonderful world of form and function! Learn sculpture fundamentals while having fun creating awesome sculpture pieces of your very own. What will you make? A dish? A bowl? You will get to try aluminum wire, fabric, recycled materials, and air dry clay. This after-school class is ideal for the artistic elementary school student who loves to experiment, maybe a future engineer! You will have a chance to explore many 3D mediums and come home with masterpieces ready for display. All materials included.

Irish Dance has been taught in Ireland for a few centuries. Dance Masters would travel the country teaching the intricate steps and spreading their love of traditional music. The dance has evolved over the years and today most people have heard of Riverdance. Students will learn reels, jigs and ceili dances. Don’t miss out on this fun club!

Tru2form Hoops provides a fun, dynamic after-school basketball program designed to teach kids the fundamentals of the game. We use a variety of drills and games to reinforce dribbling, proper shooting technique, footwork, and overall knowledge of the game. We emphasize sportsmanship, teamwork, and fair play. Come join us for an action-packed basketball program that will help build skill and confidence!

In this junior robotics course, we use a hands-on approach to STEM discovery. Students learn valuable coding concepts while tapping into their imaginations to create and program robots. Step by step, we build a variety of cool Lego robots based around a motor and controller. Then, kids use a block based programming language to make their creation come to life! It’s educational, cool, and FUN!
