Monday Clubs

“Fun with LEGOs” LEGOLand with Mrs. Elkassem (PK4-Grade 2)

If you are a “LEGO fanatic” this program is for you! Mrs. Elkassem will create a “LEGOLand” full of opportunities for students to explore and create with LEGOs. Every student will have a part in building a LEGO City. Our city will expand weekly as the students add more buildings, transportation, and people.

Fee: $370

Dance/Karaoke Party with Ms. Brooks (PK3-Grade 1) 

If you love to dance and sing-along to your favorite songs on the radio then this club is for you! No dance or singing experience required. Ms. Brooks will create an awesome playlist that will get us all MOVIN’ and GROOVIN’ in no time.

This Dance Party Has It All:

  • Free Style Dancing
  • Disney Sing-alongs
  • Kids-Bop Radio dance battles 
  • Yoga Obstacle Course

Building Design with Minecraft with Mr. Foster (Grades 2-5)

Students will be able to use the super-popular game Minecraft to plan and construct a fully interactive world together! Students will have opportunities, both by themselves and collaboratively, to plan out what they are going to build, and then make it come to life in the game! Students do not need to be familiar with Minecraft, but it seems like most of them are!

Fee: $250

Gymnastics with Active Play (PK 4-Grade 1)

Students in this class will jump, hop, and climb as they learn fundamental gymnastics skills in an entertaining and fast-paced way. The class will open up with a fun warm-up and stretch. The students will learn basic floor gymnastics skills, including cartwheels, handstands, bridges, back walkers, and agility movements.The goal is for students to learn gymnastics skills in a fun and interactive way! Reminder: It is important for students to dress appropriately in athletic or gymnastics apparel.

Math Olympiad with Ms. Loutoo (Grades 4-5)

This year we are excited to offer a Math Olympiad club for students in Grades 4 and 5. Mathematical Olympiads for Elementary and Middle Schools (www.moems.org) is a national organization that provides opportunities for students to engage in creative problem-solving activities while developing reasoning, logic, productive discourse, and perseverance. 

Working with math teacher Susie Loutoo, students will explore and practice problems in preparation for monthly Olympiad contests. Students may sign up for this club each trimester, or participate through the year. While any child who has participated in Math Olympiad in the after school program will be awarded a certificate at the end of the year, those who have completed all five monthly olympiad contests may qualify for a small award.

Study Hall (Grades 4-5)

Study Hall is a structured, quiet time for students to work on homework after school. The sessions are supervised by members of the Extended Day team, and students should be able to work independently with minimum support. Due to the quiet nature of Study Hall, students are not able to work together on group projects during this time.

Puzzles, Card, and Board Games with Ms. Keller (Grades 1-5)

Ms. Keller will be leading a club dedicated to classic and modern card and board games. Students will also have access to the large collection of puzzles in her office. Students will learn how to play all of the most popular games to bring home to family game night. A great way for your child to have a technology-free activity after school with their friends! A lot of new games have been added over the summer.

Art Club with Mrs. Cowan (Grades 2-5)

Children will explore new techniques, learn to manipulate three-dimensional materials, and find rich ways of expression in a variety of art mediums.

Kaleidoscope 4-5-6 with Chaplain Kristen and Ms. Sieminski (Grades 4-6)

Kaleidoscope clubs at WES focus on topics of identity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging. Students will have the opportunity to explore these topics together, connect them to current events, and share their ideas with the wider WES community.

Fun Station Creation Club with Mr. Elkassem (PK3- Grade 2)

In this “sky’s the limit” play-based learning club, students will have the opportunity to improve their fine and gross motor skills, manipulative skills, collaboration, creative thinking, problem-solving skills, and develop new friendships. Students will have the chance to work in teams or independently to explore and engage in many activities such as building a variety of train tracks, exploring with magnets, engineering and designing different marble run structures and blocks, playing with hot wheels cars, snap circuits, magnet tiles, puzzles, designing paper airplanes, and much more. Students will also have the chance to discover their artistic side with arts and crafts and a creative story making station using toy animals and dinosaurs. Students will have the freedom to move from one station to another as they wish. 

Note: No Station Creation Club on 5/16

French with Madame Jacqueline (Grades 3-4)

Students can extend their skills in French through games, dialogues, and other activities. The emphasis is on learning through play, exploration, and the arts. Vocabulary will be reinforced as children have a chance to practice their French-speaking skills and also learn more about the Francophile world.

Spanish with Señora O’Kon (Grades 3-4)

Students can extend their skills in Spanish through games, movies, and preparing snacks following instructions in the target language. The emphasis is on learning through play, exploration, and the arts. Vocabulary will be reinforced and expanded as children have a chance to practice their Spanish-speaking skills and also learn more about Spanish culture.

Let’s Paint in Acrylics and Watercolors with Rana Ryan (PreK3-Grade 2)

Come join me on Tuesdays, in a light and fun art class where you can create your own happy vivid colorful paintings. We will be using acrylic paints, experimenting and enjoying their versatility and learning how to blend colors. In the Spring we will also be painting with Watercolors.

Every learner will walk away feeling proud of their canvases!

All supplies will be provided, but if possible please send in an old T-shirt to wear, I will save it for art class. Snacks are always provided. Please let me know of any allergies.

Cross Stitching with Ms. Abarr (Grades 2-5)

While learning the technique of cross stitching, students will be able to use their creativity, strengthen their fine motor skills, and develop skills in accuracy and precision. Cross stitching is especially good for students who enjoy working on a project from the beginning to the end.

Wednesday Clubs

FUN Science with Mrs. Elkassem (PK4- Grade 2)

Our Fun and Sticky Science Club where kids get dirty and tables get messy will give the students an opportunity to explore a variety of hands-on experiments. The students will make slime, lava lamps, Alka-Seltzer rockets, and experiment with different foaming, bubbling, and fizzing compounds while learning about physical and chemical change.

Karate with Sensei Takemori (Grades 1-5)

Great opportunity to learn from a former all-Japan karate (K-1 style) champion! Sensei Takemori is a native of Japan! 

Sensei’s teaching system is not ordinary. He will demonstrate to students his passion for karate which comes from over 40 years of training and experience. Students will enjoy and learn real discipline. 

Fee: $315

Jewelry Making Club with Ms. Keller (Kindergarten- Grade 5)

Ms. Keller will be leading a club dedicated to making bracelets, necklaces, rings, and earrings! Rainbow loom, lanyards, beads, and friendship bracelets are just a few of the options available to students. Students get to keep and take home anything they make during this club. 

Fee: $375

Ping Pong with Mr. Pizarro (Grades 1-5)

The Ping-Pong Club is a smashing group of WES students who train and compete in the stimulating sport of table tennis.  Members will hone their skills and sharpen their games each meeting on Tuesdays. Led by Sr. Pizarro, the Ping-Pong Club is “serving” its way into the hearts of those WES students who love table tennis!

Fee: $320

Arts & Crafts with Mrs. Brockway (Grades 1-3)

Each week will be a new adventure in the crafting world for your child! Whether your child is a beginner or just enjoys creating, this will be a good time for all. We will be using painting techniques, 3D techniques, gluing, cutting, sand and salt, and other techniques to make our creations. All projects will be brought home to share and enjoy with the family!

Math Challenges with Ms. Abarr (Grades 2-3)

Ready to be challenged in math? Put your math skills to the test in real world experiences! Students will be given scenarios in which they have to work together to solve multi-step story problems to complete the challenge.

Thursday Clubs

Chess Wizards (Grades 2-5)

Enter into the magical and exciting world of chess with Chess Wizards! You will participate in epic chess games, fun and interactive lessons, tournaments, team matches, trivia and more! Our specialized classes are a blast for everyone first through fifth. Whether you have been playing chess for your entire life and want to improve, are brand new to the game, or you just want to have a fun experience with your friends – Chess Wizards is the place for you!

Fee: $286

Chess Club - After School Enrichment Program at Washington Episcopal School in Bethesda

Arts and Crafts with Ms. Shanaz (PK3-Grade 1)

Each week your child will be immersed in hands-on experiences that encourage the development of their fine motor, social and critical thinking skills.  We will be making a variety of art projects, and use many different materials including yarn, paints, stone art, and so much more! All creations can be brought home to proudly share with friends and family. 

Fee: $250

SCRATCH JR With Code Advantage (K-Grade 2) 

Learning to Code is a critical skill for children to learn! Much like learning another language, it’s best to have kids learn about programming concepts early and often! In our Scratch Jr class, kids will learn coding concepts including computer automation and linear sequencing. They will make short stories, apply elements of animation, and create their own sprites and objects – all using technology and coding fundamentals!

Fee: $358

Cooking with Active Play (Grades 3-5)

Take a trip around the world in our World Cooking Club! We will learn about different cultures and then eat a dish from that region! Kids will learn how to use kitchen tools appropriately and safely, how to make dishes from around the world using simple ingredients that are easy to find at home, how to clean up after making big messes in the kitchen, and ideas about nutrition and feeding their bodies in a healthy manner. Students will keep track of the things they make on a weekly basis. At the end of the class, the students will have their very own cookbook!

Fee: $429

Fencing with Active Play (Grades 2-5)

Calling all pirates, musketeers, and Jedi – fencing is coming to you! Fencing is a martial art and an Olympic sport. Fencing is based on swordsmanship in which winning points are made through contact with an opponent. Children in the class will learn basic moves and participate in matches to develop their skills and explore this history-rich sport that combines athleticism and intellect. Like other martial arts, fencing is about personal accomplishment, creative problem-solving, and discipline. Fencers will apply their acquired skills and confidence to other sports, studies, and life. All equipment used in this class, including clothing, masks and sabres, will be provided by the instructor.

Friday Clubs

Adventures with Ms. Voelpel  (PK3- Grade 1)

Would your child like to climb Mt. Everest? What about going on a treasure hunt? Or would they like to go through a laser maze? Well if you said yes to all of these, then I have the perfect club for your kid! Every week we will go on a new adventure, with some fun challenges along the way.  All your child needs to bring is their imagination. Don’t miss out on this fun club!

Fee: $300

Yoga/Meditation/Mindfulness Activities Ms. Nelson (Grades 2-5)

Worried about homework? Getting good grades? Nervous for a big game? Social stress with friends? Show your mind some love and come chill for an hour after school to relax and recenter. You will learn to stretch, listen to your body, build balance and contort your body into fun poses! We will also mix in fun movement sessions (dance, workout circuits, etc.), meditation sessions and mindful drawing activities.  

**Don’t forget your yoga mat or towel**

Fee: $250

Crafting in Spanish with Sra. O’Kon (Grades 1-3)

¡Hola! Let’s get crafting in Spanish. Let’s fly a kite, sail the high seas, and go camping. This is a great opportunity to learn and/or expand your Spanish vocabulary while crafting puppets and play sets, and listening to songs and playing interactive games. Club members will take their crafts home as soon as they are completed and hopefully teach some Spanish at home as well. ¡Manos a la obra con Sra. O’Kon!

Hockey with Active Play (Grades 1-3)

Pass, shoot, and score this fall with Active Play! Students will learn hockey skills as they compete against each other in various games and drills. This class is a fun, high-energy, and high-endurance activity that will require lots of water breaks. Sign up to see if you have what it takes to be a Stanley Cup Champion.  

**This will take place on the sports court, so please dress for the weather.**

Film Club (sports figures & major players with Coach Black) (Grades 2-5)

Film club provides a safe space for young people to grow, flourish and gain confidence, as well as create a sense of unity across age ranges, social classes, and ethnicities through a shared appreciation of film. This club will focus on sports stories of dedication, hard work, and perseverance, with the goal being to give young people the opportunity for meaningful engagement with film and success stories and helping them with sportsmanship, leadership, resilience, and confidence. We will engage in short assignments, open discussions, and a final project that will highlight each student’s favorite athlete and what they have learned from their selected individuals’ story. 

Fee $320

“Sunrise” Reading Club with Mrs. Poland (Grades 2-4)

Students will travel by WES van to Sunrise Senior Living on Connecticut Ave, NW to read to the residents. We will also create projects and listen to their stories of when they were children! Books will be provided as well as art supplies.  Mr. Dave Schuessler will be providing the transportation. 

**Please note the dates of the club, as it will usually meet every other Friday. Dates: Jan. 6 & 20; Feb. 3, 10, 24 and March 10.**
