Before- & After-School Program

At WES, the learning and adventure extend beyond the regular school day, with interesting and worthwhile options for students before and after school throughout the year.

WES offers a wide variety of after-school programming, ranging from childcare to competitive sports to Study Hall to clubs, to extend the learning and adventure beyond the school day.

Before and After School Programs Bethesda MD

"My sister and I do so many neat things after school and have a lot of fun. The best part is we get to be with all of our friends."

— Grade 6 Student

Before- and After-School Programs

Before-School Programs

Before Care
Before Care is complementary and is open to all WES students PK3-Grade 5 from 7:45 a.m. to 8:15 a.m. each day. Parents should park and walk students to the front lobby between 7:45-8 a.m. each day.

After-School Programs

After-School Enrichment Program (ASEP)
Our popular After-School Enrichment Program (ASEP) offers activities for students in PK3-Grade 5 from 3:30-4:30 p.m. on Monday through Thursday and from 2:30-3:30 p.m. on Friday.

ASEP activities range from clubs to study hall, musical rehearsals, cooking, art, STEM, and sports. Offerings are age-dependent for students in PK3-Grade 5. There are three sessions per school year, and each session has different offerings. Some are covered by tuition, and some will be fee-based.

Study Hall

WES also offers a complimentary Study Hall for students in Grades 4-5. Study Hall provides an opportunity for students to complete their homework assignments at WES. The schedule for the 22-23 school year will be as follows:

  • Grades 4-5: Monday & Tuesday, 3:30-4:30 p.m.

Extended Day
An Extended Day program is offered daily (exceptions being the day before Christmas break, Graduation Day and the last day of school) for an additional fee. It runs until 6 p.m. Students may work on their homework or participate in supervised free play. The Extended Day Room, Computer Lab, Gym, and playground are all available for use. Drop-ins are also welcome.

Band
Instrumental music participation (band) is mandatory for all students in Grades 4, 5, and 6. Grades 7 and 8 students choose band or chorus. In order to supplement the two full rehearsals during the school day, each grade also meets in smaller instrument sectionals after school once per week rotating through the various band instruments. Currently, Grade 4 sections meet on Monday and Grades 5 and 6 on Wednesday with each student having a sectional about once per month. The Middle School ensemble is a group known as the Band Ambassadors who rehearse weekly every Tuesday.

Sports
Students in Grades 5 can choose between P.E. or participating in competitive sports.

WES offers the following sports programs:

Fall
Soccer, Cross-Country

Winter
Basketball

Spring
Lacrosse, Track & Field

While P.E. classes occur only during the school day, sports practices occur two days a week during the school day and two days a week after school when that sport is in season. The practice schedule will be as follows:

Grades 5-6: Monday & Tuesday, 2:30-3:30 p.m. / Wednesday & Thursday, 3:30-4:30 p.m.
