Parents Association

Promoting, Supporting, and Enhancing Your Child's Experience

Parents of WES students work together as the Washington Episcopal School Parents Association (PA). The purpose of the organization is to promote, support, and enhance the total school program through periodic meetings and coordinating events and activities.

The PA enables families to meet, work together, and join in fellowship while meeting this goal. All parents, stepparents, and/or legal guardians are voting members of the Association. Each spring officers are elected to serve a one-year term.

From the PA President

Dear Parents,

The Parents Association (PA) warmly welcomes you to Washington Episcopal School (WES)! We strive to build and support our community by planning events, activities, and educational series that bring us together and also model our school’s values and commitment to service and volunteerism. We look forward to getting to know you and your family and hope you will share your time and talents with us! The PA coordinates many events and activities that enrich and support the school including: the Parents Association Representatives, Parent Workshops, the Father’s Club, Faculty/Staff Snack Days, a BINGO Night, the Book Fair, Parents Council of Washington (PCW), Used Uniform sales, Founders Day Picnic, and the Faculty/Staff Appreciation Luncheon.

Important school dates and many details are listed on the calendar on the WES website. Please mark your calendars early as you will not want to miss out on any of these activities. In the midst of the pandemic, we are eager to provide creative and safe ways to connect and foster a strong and active community. We welcome your ideas and suggestions and eagerly await your participation. Feel free to email any of us with your questions or concerns.

We look forward to meeting you in person!

Ways You Can Get Involved:

Volunteering
There are many opportunities for parents to get involved throughout the year and to strengthen our WES community. Whether you have 30 minutes to spare, time at night to send out an email or two, or a couple of hours a month, parent participation is encouraged in every aspect of school life.

Volunteers help with a wide range of activities from serving hot lunch, chaperoning field trips, and fundraising (eg., Book Fair and Auction Gala) to judging the science fair, welcoming new families as a mentor, and serving as a Room Parent. Your talents and expertise are always appreciated and enthusiastic new ideas are always welcome! Volunteering also provides families the opportunity to meet new friends as you get involved with the community. Please take a few moments to complete the form below to indicate your volunteer preferences.

Activities
Many activities are funded through the Parents Association dues and income-producing events such as the sale of school pictures and gift wrap, used uniforms, and Ledo Pizza Night.

With these funds, the PA is able to sponsor annual events and programs such as the Parent Education Workshops, Faculty Appreciation Luncheon, Founders Day Picnic, as well as support various other activities and needs within the WES community.

Room Parents and Assistant Room Parents
Each class or grade has a set of Room Parents who work together as coordinators for Parents Association meetings, class activities (especially parties and field trips), class communications, and as liaisons for parent participation in other volunteer activities.

Fathers Committee
The Fathers Committee aims to foster friendships among fathers and their children and deepen the relationship with the community. They coordinate several activities such as a family golf outing and camp out, and they help with major school and other PA events.

Parents Council of Washington
Washington Episcopal School is a member of The Parents Council of Washington (PCW) a non-profit organization established to foster communication within the greater Washington, DC independent school community.

This network of independent schools and their parent communities have opportunities to share ideas, best practices, and information through various workshops, lectures, and forums.

Grade Event Support
Washington Episcopal School enjoys a tradition of lively community events throughout the year. Some of these are related to the established school year events like graduation and others reflect a spirit of kinship and recreation.

In order to help the functions move smoothly and to share the tasks that arise from them, each grade is responsible for helping to host one of the school-wide events. This may include providing manpower for set-up and clean-up and volunteers during the event and/or supplying food and beverages.

The events are coordinated through the Development Office.
