Claire Lecocq

EC/ES French Teacher

At WES Since: 2023

What is your teaching philosophy?
I deeply enjoy teaching through play: children should not feel that learning the language is an imposed, boring exercise.  I do my best to teach French involving my students in creative activities. While playing, talking to each other and to me, they build new vocabulary and grammar skills. At the end of a day while leaving the classroom, when a child comments that they feel they have not worked but just only play, it is the best compliment I can receive.

What is your favorite quote?
“If you can’t explain it simply, you don’t understand it well enough”  – Albert Einstein: it can apply to both teachers and students !

Bio:
I was born in Paris and been traveling most of my life: first across France when I was a child, teenager and young adult, then as an expat with my husband and kids, traveling anglophone countries for the last 10 years: from the UK to South Africa, India and now the US. In each of these countries, I had the opportunity to teach French to a variety of kids, first as a private tutor and later as a homeroom teacher. I earned a DAEFLE (French as a foreign language teaching diploma), specializing in children. This a dream came true, and I am very pleased to cease this new opportunity. I bring my entire self to the classroom and I am fully dedicated to my students, tailoring my teaching style to their needs. I want to make it interesting, efficient and fun!
